The latest macOS 12.0 Monterey comes with Apache 2.4 pre-installed, however, it is no longer a simple task to use this version with Homebrew because Apple has removed some required scripts in this release. To make things easier, please simply run this now: brew install openssl Apache Installation When installing fresh on Monterey, I ran into a few libraries that were missing when completing all the steps below. It will instruct you if you need to correct anything. You should probably also run the following command to ensure everything is configured correctly: brew doctor Homebrew/homebrew-core (git revision 1362c572e16 last commit ) Now you can test your installation to ensure you have installed brew correctly, simply type: brew -version Homebrew 3.3.1 zshrc: eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)" If this is a fresh install and you don't have your path setup properly, you can follow the installation "next steps" which are already customized for you, or you can manually add the following paths to your. Just follow the terminal prompts and enter your password where required. This is a simple process, but you need to launch your Terminal ( /Applications/Utilities/Terminal) application and then enter: /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL )" Using the brew command you can easily add powerful functionality to your mac, but first we have to install it. This process relies heavily on the macOS package manager called Homebrew. If you don't already have XCode installed, it's best to first install the command line tools as these will be used by homebrew: xcode-select -install Homebrew Installation If you are a beginner developer, you will be better served using MAMP or MAMP Pro. I believe you can do this in Windows natively from Map Network Drive or Add Network Location. This guide is intended for experienced web developers. You can even install phpMyAdmin to manipulate your databases from a web browser if needed This will allow you to manipulate any files you may need. Now, on your other PC, all you have to do is mount an FTP address as a volume. That will serve your XAMPP served files the exact same as if you had typed in If you dont have a static IP from your ISP, you can use DynDNS services. Now, if your ISP has static IP's (as it doesn't likely have) you can go to your external IP address in a browser, such as: Forward ports 1112 to your XAMPP servers IP. Open up your router config and go to port forwarding. Give your XAMPP server machine a static IP Adress. Then click the Filezilla tab, and change it to something random, like 11113. Change the port to something random, such as 11111. Then click the button marked Service and Port Settings.Ī new box will open and be on the Apache tab. Set your Apache and Filezilla ports to run off of wild, never used ports.Įxample, open up the XAMPP Configuration of Control panel by clicking on Config. I have Dreamweaver CS6 on BOTH computers, as I work from both, but serve at home before it's ready to go to the testing server. Here's an example:Īt my home I have my Windows PC. This may or may not provide you with what you need, but your reasoning behind wanting to bring your files/databases to multiple servers on multiple platforms was not explained. Or, big or here, you could work everything off of FTP. What I'm essentially asking if there is a way to solve my above problem about moving from Windows Desktop to Macbook on a USB external hardrive in the quickest way possible.Īny insight would be great and I'm open to suggestions that people use in my situation. I could do this the manual way of each time I go from my Windows machine > Macbook I could copy the files and drag the exported databases with me, but this is time consuming for every time I just want to quickly move from one machine to the next. Mac is in the var folder of Xampp and the Windows xampp databases are elsewhere. I did however copy them across, but windows and mac Xampp are different where they store these databases it seems. This actually worked great, it showed all my sites, except I was getting MySQL errors. What I tried today was changing the document root of nf to my USB files directory. What I need is for my Xampp to just pick up from where I left off at my Windows Desktop, I'm just wondering if this achievable? Or if I'm going the wrong way about it? I copy my files from my windows machine on to my USB external and then I go to my macbook and fire up my USB hardrive. This all works great until I need to take my work on my mac via my usb hardrive. I am working on some PHP projects (Wordpress mostly) with MySQL databases and primarily use my Windows Desktop to do the work on whilst running Xampp.
